First example

In the first example the following game will be simulated:

House rules:

Atlantic City, 6 decks shoe, doubling down on 2 cards, splitting up to 4 hands (6D, S17, D2, DAS, surrender is not allowed). The cut off is 75 cards.

The player plays one box and one hand. He/she does use a basic strategy corresponding to the house rules and he/she does not count cards but, in order to get more detailed results, a card counting strategy has been selected for him/her. Simulation should be run up to 100 million rounds.

1) Start the BJ777 simulator program.

A simulation window will be opened automatically in the main window.

Tips:

  • The simulator window automatically records all important settings made earlier. So you can exit the program without saving any time.
  • Later on you can open several simulation windows in the Windows menu, if you wish to run a few examinations simultaneously.

2) Select the Tutorial01 profile from the settings of the simulator. By this all settings of the simulator will be loaded in accordance with the profile and all the changes you do later will be stored also in this profile.

Tips:

  • There is no "Saving" button. If you close the simulator window or select another profile, all settings will be saved automatically into the active profile.
  • In the combo box, over the names of the profiles you can find various operations ( New, Copy, Delete, Rename ). Here you can create, copy, delete or rename profiles.

3) Select Example01 in the combo box House and Players. By this you have set the house rules and number of players around the table.

Tips:

The House and Players profiles store all settings of the Blackjack table such as house rules, dealer, active players, strategies of the players, card counting methods of the players. Once you have selected a profile, the picture symbolizing the table shows immediately the effective house rules in the profile, the number of players at the table (numbered yellow/gray rectangles) and also the No. of decks , Burn, Cut off figures will be loaded from here.

4) Open the Player Settings window: click the right mouse button on the middle of the House and Players combo box . In the House selector choose the house setting of our example ( Atlantic City ), activate the first box then choose the basic strategy 6D S17 D2 DAS in the strategy selector and set the High opt II card counting strategy. Now you are ready.

Tips:

It is not necessary to close the Player Setup window before starting the simulator. If you have enough space on the display you may leave it open.

5) Set the length of the simulation to the requested 100 millions of rounds and start the simulator with the green Start simulation button.

6) As long as the simulator is in operation, the button is red. If you want to stop then click on it.

Tips:

While running the simulation all parameters which are not disabled can be set. You can see on the picture that in the Advantage of flat bet tab it is possible to select the number of the players and you are free to choose between the split hands. By turning on the Summed checkbox you can summarize results of several players/hands. In the table(s) you always find results corresponding to the state of the checkboxes Player/Splits/Summed.

On the other hand the graph(s) represent a column of the table depending on which column header you clicked on with the mouse.

During the simulator run displays are refreshed automatically ca. in every 5 seconds. If you change a setting then refreshing is immediate.

Advantage of flat bet

In the first tab there are results of the flat bet game:

  • Your disadvantage is 0.362 % against the house as you can see it in the Totals line of the Advantage column. (Switch on the % display checkbox; otherwise your loss will appear in the table in unit bet numbers.)

Tips: The displayed numbers are always indicated from the player's viewpoint. Negative numbers mean disadvantage for you.

As it was mentioned in the example, the player does not count cards. Thus in the long run he/she will finish the game with this loss.

But we were cautious enough to furnish him/her with the High Opt II card counting strategy. So you can see the results of this immediately.

Select the last column in the table (click the mouse on the header of the Advantage column). Then the graph will display the numbers of the column. You can see on the graph that your advantage is growing fast according to the TC values. (TC values are on the horizontal axis)

It is evident that in the case of TC = 1 or above you already have an advantage over the house.

Betting Strategy

In the previous part you could see that without adequate bet increase you have no odds at all against the house rules. So let's discuss setting the bet increase.

Select the Betting Strategy tab, uncheck the Summed checkbox and check the first player ( Player 1 ),

  • Set the minimum bet ( Min. bet ) to 100, which means a chip of 100 denomination. These 100 units correspond to a single bet multiplier, i.e. the base bet.
  • Set the number of hands to be played to 200 (which means roughly a play of two hours. It can be changed in the More Settings tab),
  • Set the bet multiplier to 3 at TC values of 1 and 2, which means a bet of 300 at these TC values.
  • At TC values of 4,5 and 6 or above set the bet multiplier to 5 (the bet is here 500).
  • Set the Skip & Cut off sliders in the same position as on the picture. This means that the settings of the simulator are not overwritten.
  • Uncheck the % display checkbox. This way you will get results in chips.

After these settings you can read the result in the Totals line of the Gain column, which is now 80.

So this 80 is the expected result of your 2 hours play, which is 0.8 unit referring to the base bet. Your calculated hourly rate will be 40 as you have spent 2 hours on playing.

You can read another important data in the table: that is the bankroll required to the game. In this case it is 13161, at 10% risk of ruin. This means that you can start playing with 131 pieces chips of 100 denomination. In our case the 10% risk of ruin means a 10 % chance of requiring more chips to the game. With other words you can have a losing series demanding more than 131 chips.

You can see that the base strategy provides only a very modest "income" even in case of a relatively high bet increase. If you change for displaying in % (by switching on the % display checkbox ) you will see immediately that your gain is only 0.185 % on your total bet invested or laid down on the table. Of course, if you increase the bet multipliers then your gain will increase but sooner or later you will get to the conclusion that the basic strategy does not give you a satisfactory advantage. So you are enforced to senselessly high bet increases, not to mention the huge bankroll demand.
